One of the first questions pool owners want to know when they call our company is: How much does pool service/maintenance cost?
Although this is a challenging question to answer, I will try my best to explain some general pricing guidelines.
The purchase of swimming pool service/maintenance is similar to the purchase of clothing, varying from dress shirts to slacks, from t-shirt to jeans. With many options available, price ranges can vary drastically.
As an example, a simple t-shirt can be priced as low as $15, a dress shirt can quickly cost over $100 once a shopper adds items such as a custom tailored fit, pressed collar, and the trim fit option. Some jeans are priced as low as $10 at discount stores but others can cost in the $100’s for designer jeans with a perfect fit and just the right look.
Considering the average American purchases over $160 a month on clothing, why do so many people elect to get the custom fit and designer styles? The answer is because most people understand the importance of getting what they want the first time to avoid having any regrets down the road. Because most Americans spend all day in their clothing, they want to make sure their outfits will provide them with quality, comfort, longevity, and dependability.
These same principles typically apply to most in-ground swimming pool service/maintenance shoppers.
You’re going to see your pool every day for as long as you live in your home, and picking the right pool service/maintenance company with the right fit for you and your family the first time is critical to ensure maximum enjoyment with minimum maintenance. Because of this, most shoppers elect to get the pool service/maintenance company that will give them the best service for the long-run.
Unfortunately, some people only focus on the initial price of the pool service with the goal of finding the cheapest contractor, therefore picking a low-maintenance, low quality, non-dependable contractor which inevitably leads to regret—like the cheaper shirt or low quality jeans that no longer fit after one wash.
The big 3 Pool Services and their costs.
There are typically 3 services to consider when you are talking about pool service/maintenance. Pool openings, weekly pool cleanings and pool closings. I will go over these briefly in this article and will provide a more in depth look at costs in a future article.
Pool Opening Costs
There is a wide variety of options and costs for pool openings in Hampton Roads ranging from a basic pool opening to a full service pool opening. It all depends on how much work you want to do when opening your pool. If you want to spend a weekend or 2 (or possibly 3) working on your water chemistry, clarity and vacuuming your pool multiple times then the basic pool opening may be for you. If you want to swim in your pool within a week of opening, or possibly even sooner, the full service pool opening is for you! Costs from a licensed and insured professional pool company range from $150 for the basic opening to over $400 for a full service opening. Some companies offer pool opening contracts that include the chemicals ranging in cost from $300-$450 depending on the size of the pool. Contracts can help you lock in a price fit for your budget.
Weekly Pool Cleaning Costs
On average, weekly pool service from a licensed and insured professional pool company can cost anywhere from $40-$150 a visit depending on a multitude of factors such as the size of the pool, with vacuum or without, with chemicals or without etc. From a simple water test costing $40-$70 to a full service cleaning costing $80-$125, there is a wide range in the marketplace to select from. Some companies offer pool cleaning contracts that include chemicals ranging from $89 to $135 a visit depending on the size of the pool. Contracts can help you budget to enjoy your pool for the entire season.
Pool Closing Costs
There is a wide variety of options and costs for pool closings in Hampton Roads ranging from a basic pool closing to a full service pool closing. It all depends on how much work you want to do when closing your pool. If you want to spend a weekend working on your water chemistry, clarity and vacuuming your pool then the basic pool closing may be for you. If you want to come home to a worry free pool that is closed for the season the full service pool closing is for you! Costs from a licensed and insured professional pool company range from $100 for the basic closing, which is typically just installing the cover to over $350 for a full service closing. Some companies offer pool closing contracts that include the chemicals ranging in cost from $275-$400 depending on the size of the pool. Contracts can help you lock in a price fit for your budget.
Pool Contracts Cost
We have seen a big increase in our customers asking for Pool contracts, customers seem to like the stability of a set monthly payment or the cost savings of paying a one time payment. Our contracts include just about everything from the pool opening and closing to all of the cleanings in between. Island Pool Services contracts even include all chemicals which is a huge perk of having a contract. No hidden costs!! Contracts can vary in price depending on the size of your pool and your filter type, they start around $2000 if paid in full and only $189 a month for our summer cleaning contract. We also offer an extended summer contract and a year round cleaning service contract. This is a very affordable way to have a worry free summer and spend all your time enjoying your pool instead of cleaning it!
